CLTA-WA Hosts 2026 Annual General Meeting and Workshop Recap

On June 7, 2026, Chinese Language Teachers Association of Washington (CLTA-WA) successfully hosted its Annual General Meeting (AGM) and Workshop via Zoom. Members reviewed the association’s accomplishments from the past year, welcomed the 2026–2027 Board of Directors, and learned about upcoming programs, membership benefits, and grant opportunities.
The professional development workshop featured four presentations on conference takeaways, instructional innovation, and cultural activities.
Zoe Jiang (Skyline High School)
Drawing on highlights from ACTFL 2025, Zoe Jiang shared inquiry-based instructional ideas built around essential questions such as Can Chocolate Change the World? and Can Rice Change the World? Her presentation demonstrated how authentic resources, global issues, and cultural exploration can be integrated into language learning.
Jingran Wan (Odle Middle School)
Jingran Wan presented strategies for teaching social-emotional learning (SEL) and critical thinking through Chinese classical literature. Using words, expressions and real stories related with from Daoism and Confucianism, she demonstrated how classical texts can help students develop cultural understanding, personal reflection, and higher-order thinking skills.
Pohua Huang (Seattle Academy)
As a recipient of a CLTA-WA Cultural Activity Grant, Pohua Huang shared a Tai Chi cultural learning project that introduced students to traditional Chinese philosophy, mindfulness, and wellness through hands-on practice and collaboration with community partners.
Huan Wang (Issaquah High School)
Huan Wang showcased classroom cultural activities including mooncake-making and sugar painting. Her presentation highlighted how hands-on cultural experiences can support meaningful language output through vocabulary development, sentence frames, reflection, and performance-based assessment.
The workshop provided valuable opportunities for educators to exchange ideas, learn from one another, and explore innovative ways to strengthen Chinese language teaching and learning. CLTA-WA thanks all presenters and participants for contributing to a successful event and looks forward to continued collaboration in the 2026–2027 membership year.
